The South Park Board of Supervisors held their regular meeting on Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.Mr. Walter Sackinsky of the Board of Supervisors opened the meeting, recognizing a local youth who recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Matthew T. Gwynn, of Troop 510, became an Eagle Scout through his efforts to construct lighted storage lockers for the high school drama club and at minimal cost. His activity as a volunteer firefighter for the Library Fire Company was also mentioned.

Mr. Sackinsky stated, “Therefore, be it proclaimed that the members of the Board of Supervisors honor Matthew T. Gwynn for deservingly being awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, due to his strength of character and resolution of spirit, proclaimed this 12th day of Oct., 2015, signed by the Board of Supervisors.”

Afterwards, the Board continued the meeting, discussing community concerns and addressing them.

A non-exclusive license agreement was granted between the Township of South Park and residents on Ajay Dr., who are looking to place a fence over a sanitary sewer easement.

The final approval was granted to the minor subdivision identified as the Hogya Minor Subdivision, located at 6607 Springval Dr.

Two public nuisance hearings will be scheduled for Nov. 9 to determine if the duplex house at 2910/2910A on Highland Ave. and the house at 2503 Grove Rd. will be declared public nuisances. The hearing for the house on Highland Ave. will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the hearing for the house on Grove Rd. will be held at 6:45 p.m.

There is an agreement between the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG) and the Township of South Park in order to define the terms and conditions for the administration of the community development grant funds for the project identified as the Grove Road Storm Sewer Phase 3.

The project identified as the 2015 Road Program will be completed by Youngblood Paving at a cost in the amount of $390,974.48.

The painting of South Park’s Municipal Complex will be done by Saint’s Painting Company Inc., at a cost in the amount of $61,508.50.

The Township has hired Cindy Klein to be the new monitor for South Park Township’s recreation basketball program.

The Board authorized the equal distribution of Volunteer Fire Relief Association funds in the amount of $75,245. Broughton Volunteer Fire Dept. will receive $37,622.50 and Library Volunteer Fire Company will receive $37,622.50.

There were several requests from Scioto Construction Company to waive two requirements in regards to the Hidden Ridge Detention Pond. One request was to waive the 4” PVC perforated drain opening and the other was to waive the required 2” trash rack spacing and allow for 6” spacing.

During closing comments, Chief McDonough shared that South Park Township made two lists on safewise.com. According to safewise.com, South Park is #7 on the 50 Safest Cities in PA list and #5 on the 100 Safest Cities in America list.
