The Carroll Twp. Board of Supervisors announced at the Oct. 6th monthly meeting that the township police department has promoted part-time police officer John Korcek to full-time officer, effective Oct. 1, 2015.
Korcek, who has worked as a part-time police officer for Carroll Twp. for over a decade, comes into the position with praise from the board and Chief of Police Paul Brand, who said, “He’s going to be a great addition as a full-time officer.”
Supervisor Gary Lenzi echoed Chief Brand’s favorable remarks, saying, “This wasn’t a hard decision to make him full-time.”
Korcek, who attended the meeting with his family, was publicly sworn in as a full-time officer by Magisterial District Judge Mark Wilson.
Also at the meeting, resident Maya Patch addressed the board, informing the supervisors and police department about all-terrain vehicle traffic in the township. Mrs. Patch also questioned the board about demolitions reportedly completed in the township, asking why the abandoned property on Carolina Ave., neighboring her property, hasn’t been razed.
Patch, who has been fighting for the repair or demolition of the Carolina Avenue property for years, expressed her frustration over the house not being demolished since it isn’t habitable.
Zoning Officer Dennis Butler explained that the house is understandably a nuisance, as some other properties are in the township, but that “not habitable doesn’t mean it can be demolished.”
In other business, the township announced the Trick or Treat date of Oct. 31st from 5-7 p.m.
The next regular monthly meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5th at 6 p.m.
