In response to a residential survey conducted by the Parks and Recreation department, a prominent recommendation for Peters Township would be to build a swimming pool in Peterswood Park. This finding was revealed at the August 10 meeting of Peters Township Council. Public meetings on the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan took place throughout the year, and recently the online survey was carried out. .

Council was informed that 1,200 responses were recorded from the survey, which asked residents what park improvements they would recommend. Township Manager Michael Silvestri said that his feel on many of the township parks is that “they are not functioning as neighborhood parks.”

Council concurred that if residents wanted it, the township could conduct a study to see if a swimming pool is a future reality. Possible sites for the pool mentioned near the Community Center included the skate park and baseball field.

Other survey suggestions for the township included more play options, shelter improvements, improved signage, more parking and better accessibility for handicapped persons.

In other business, Council:
• Approved a $39,000 contract with Randa Contracting of Canonsburg to construct 1,150 feet of sidewalk and three handicapped ramps in the Hidden Brook plan on Shoreline Drive. This is last of the improvements the township was required to make as the result of their confiscation of an $181,000 bond from the original developer, who did not complete the original site work on the project.
• Announced a Commonwealth Court appeal decision ordering residents of Mount Blaine Road to remove a gate to block through traffic. Motorists were using the partially private road as a shortcut to Nevin Drive and Old Oak Road. The decision upheld a prior ruling from Common Pleas Judge Valerie Costanzo. The township filed suit against the residents in early 2014 saying that the gate interfered with emergency responders. If the Mount Blane Road residents wish to appeal the decision, they will have 30 days to do so.
• Acknowledged receipt of notification from drilling company EQT of their intent to reactivate a well pad on Cooper Road in Nottingham Township, several miles from Venetia. The site was originally drilled by Chesapeake Energy, who sold the lease to EQT.
• Approved a request from NSS Life, 351 Valley Brook Road, to hold a Slovak craft fair and outdoor festival in their parking lot. The free event will be held on Saturday, September 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many traditional Slovakian arts and crafts will be on display.
