Discussions of flooding and drainage problems and their solutions were on the agenda at the November 1 New Eagle Borough Council monthly meeting.
A flooding problem at a Broadway Street property near the railroad had been previously brought to the attention of the council in September, when a resident of Broadway Street blamed Council for not repairing a drainage problem that has caused repeated flooding at the resident’s home for over a decade.
The resident also claimed that he had spoken to people at the railroad who stated that the drainage issue could be resolved by the borough and that the borough was not being prevented from accessing railroad property.
Council President Jack Fine announced at the meeting that he had spoken to a representative of Norfolk Southern Railway, who said the issue with the ditch being higher than the road on the railway property was the railroad’s responsibility. The repair work has been completed by the railway, according to Council.
Another drainage problem in the borough is being addressed with the planning of the installation of approximately 400 feet of storm drains on Second Avenue.
The new drains are anticipated to be installed next year when the borough receives redevelopment funds that are distributed every four years. The funds ae expected to increase from $33,000 to $50,000 and will be enough to pay for the project.
In other business:
• The borough decided to keep a dump truck that they had previously planned to sell after the purchase of a new truck.
• Former New Eagle Secretary Linda Hall has volunteered as the Library Board Representative for the borough.
