New Eagle Borough Council voted at the September 6 regular monthly meeting to accept the bid of ASG Services for the new refuse removal contract, beginning next year.

The borough received two bids for the six-year contract, with the second bidder being the current trash collector, Waste Management.

The three-year contract will begin January 1, 2017 and will include three optional one-year extensions at the discretion of Council.

The rates offered by ASG begin at $37.50 per quarter, lowering to $36.50 per quarter by the third year. The rates for the bid of the current trash collector, Waste Management, begin at $41.07 per quarter, rising to $43.56 per quarter by the third year.

In other business:
• Council discussed possible solutions to a continuing flooding problem at a home on Broadway Street. The area floods frequently, and the borough has struggled to solve the problem for decades, due to the land containing a government-owned fiber optic line, impeding efforts to regrade the area. Council is considering options that include contacting Pennsylvania One Call to have the area marked to allowing digging around the prohibited area.
• Council voted to advertise the borough’s old dump truck, which was recently replaced with a new truck. Council discussed whether to keep the truck as a backup truck or to sell it to obtain the best price while the truck is in good condition, deciding to advertise.
