Italian Specialty & Gourmet Catering, LLC is celebrating its 40th year in the catering business. Owner Bill Blefere started the business in 1974 as a Deli/ Italian Store/ Butcher Shop in the South Hills community of Beechview during the same time that the Light Rail Transit was being constructed throughout the area. That construction project took almost three years to complete and made a heavy impact on foot traffic and walk-in business in the area. The solution to the loss of customers during this time, was for the business to start doing small catering events. From that point, the business took off in that direction, and Italian Specialty & Gourmet Catering grew to the popular, successful business it is today.

Italian Specialty proudly serves many repetitive clients, both personal and corporate. They have multiple catering options, for all types of events including: Weddings, Graduations, Fund Raisers, Picnics, and can handle catering for Government Officials, Rock Stars, as well as for Movies being shot in Pittsburgh. Mr. Blefere told the South-Hills Mon Valley Messenger that, "We take personal pride on not only our delicious foods, but also the presentation of our many types of buffets".
